Question 1

What kind of image quality can I expect from the ZEISS Secacam 1?

Accepted Answer

The Secacam 1 uses a 3MP sensor with large pixels that prioritise sensitivity, especially at night. During the day, it delivers sharp, natural-looking colour images, while at night the 940nm no-glow infrared system produces bright, high-contrast black-and-white images. The 16:9 image format helps capture whole animals rather than cropped frames. Video recording is available up to Full HD, with transmission currently at 480p.

Question 2

How does the Secacam 1 perform at night without disturbing wildlife?

Accepted Answer

The camera uses ZEISS IR Boost Technology with 940nm infrared LEDs, which are invisible to animals and humans. This tech allows continuous night monitoring without visible glow or behavioural disturbance. The combination of infrared illumination and the light-sensitive sensor helps maintain clear detail and contrast even in complete darkness.

Question 3

How long does the battery last in real use?

Accepted Answer

With standard settings, the Secacam 1 can record up to around 3400 images on a single set of batteries. That battery duration supports weeks or months of operation, depending on activity levels and transmission frequency. Battery life can be extended further using compatible ZEISS power accessories such as solar panels or power packs.

Question 4

Why doesn’t the ZEISS Secacam 1 use an SD card?

Accepted Answer

The Secacam 1 uses integrated 32GB internal memory to improve reliability and security. This avoids problems caused by damaged or poorly seated SD cards and reduces the risk of unauthorised data removal. Files can be accessed remotely through the app or copied locally using a USB-C thumb drive formatted in FAT32.

Question 5

Can I use existing ZEISS Secacam accessories with this model?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With the exception of the metal housing, accessories designed for the ZEISS Secacam 3 are compatible with the Secacam 1. This includes mounts, power solutions, and security accessories, making it easy to expand or adapt your setup over time.

Question 6

Does the ZEISS Secacam 1 require a subscription?

Accepted Answer

The camera works without mandatory monthly fees. Optional app service plans are available for advanced features such as AI recognition, remote control, and SecaTrack theft tracking, allowing users to choose the level of functionality they need.
